What is this approach?
Systemic therapy is a therapy that focuses on not just the individual, but their relationship to their environment and others around them and the interactions between all of them.
What is the evidence for it?
A large systematic review of evidence has taken place and is published here.
What can it be useful to treat?
It is very useful to help individuals who have difficulties in their relationship with others and this can include larger ‘systems’, such as relationships in couples and families.
What is it less useful to treat?
There is less evidence for the treatment of adults with mental health problems where key issues do not reside in their current family situation.
