There are various sub-categories within the diagnosis of ‘anxiety’.
Therapy that is effective against anxiety will vary from one person to another given their sub category diagnosis with the umbrella term of ‘anxiety’.
The 2007 guidelines [amending the 2004 guidance] from the National Institute for Clinical Excellence [NICE] states that Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) ‘should be used’. It specifically recommends NOT having counselling, because CBT is the most effective psychological treatment in all the forms of anxiety.
These guidelines have been further developed to point more specifically to certains forms of CBT being helpful for particular sorts of anxiety.
If you have anxiety, CBT is definitely the most effective form of therapy.
The therapists from Talking Therapies are familiar with these national guidelines, the technical reasons why our counselling and psychotherapy (the ‘talking therapies’) will work over others, and are supervised by us to work with the relevant protocols.
